We had been wanted to hike the Kalalau Trial on Kauai for a long time but it usually requires booking a permit months ahead of time. Given the lack of tourists, we were able to get a spot on just a weeks notice. It was a taxing hike up and down canyons, through lots of streams, and over a couple of very narrow cliffs, but in the end we made it and camped on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Over the next year, we did lots of hiking to explore Oahu and took advantage of finally being near Breeny, Ted, Henry, Blake, and Russell for an extended period by spending time with them frequently.
We lived at Turtle Bay on the north shore for a few months and later moved to Kailua.
When we finally returned home after a year, our neighbors didn't recognize me due to my hair having grown out and we had weeds in our yard that were six feet tall!
