There are a series of historical lighthouses still intact along the Oregon coast and one of those, the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, is in Newport.
Being a lighthouse keeper must have a lonely, but peaceful existence (at least when there was no storm). The sound of the birds and smell of
the sea perfectly complemented the dramatic rocky shoreline views.
