I visited an old growth cedar forest that included the largest cedar in Oregon, which survived the tsunami of the last big Cascadia earthquake in 1700. Most people think of California as having earthquakes rather than Oregon, but that's because Oregon has a fault of a different type that goes quiet for long periods followed by a huge big earthquake on rare occasions.

I also tried hiking along the rocky cliffs of a beach with a small waterfall and ended up getting soaking wet because the waves started coming in farther than I expected, but it was great fun.

In Seaside, I found a spot where Lewis and Clark had built an oven to boil seawater to make salt. There is only a replica in its place now, but the spot where the replica sits was chosen because they asked an old timer who had witnessed Lewis and Clark's visit and he said, "this is the spot".
