Abseiling!

Dalat sits in the cool hills of south-central Vietnam and its moderate temperatures were a nice break from the tropical heat. Just a few minutes drive away from town was a river with some great waterfalls, natural water slides, and cliff jumping spots. We signed up for a canyoning day trip there and it was truly awesome. Rappelling down the slippery face of waterfalls with the spray pummeling me was quite an experience, as were the free jumps.

We came to the top of a waterfall with a pool at the bottom, 12 meters below, and the guide told us that we could jump in from there. However, there was a ledge protruding outwards a couple of meters down the face and there wasn't room to get a running start to clear it. All I could think of was Carl Boenish at the Troll Wall. I decided to climb down to the ledge and jump form there. After we all did that once, Sam, being Sam, charged off the top off the cliff and cleared the ledge no problem. Seeing it could be done, I decided to give it a go as well. I cleared the ledge, but I did make the mistake of tilting my head forward a bit to look down as I descended and got a swift smack in the face for my curiosity as I entered the water. It was a beautiful trip and we all had an absolute blast.
