Pucón Photos

Pucón was a bit of bust for me. It's know for being an outdoor activity hub, especially for being the launching point for climbing the nearby volcano, Villarrica. We had planned on climbing it, but we realized that having just climbed the much taller and more difficult, Volcan Lanín, Villarrica would have been a disappointment. The other activities available didn't look great and were very expensive, except for zip lining, so Richard and I did a half day zip line course through the treetops. Pucón is famous for having one of the longest zip line courses on the continent, but a couple of years back some people got hurt and all of the most exciting courses got shutdown. The problem is that the rider is responsible for controlling speed using a thick glove to squeeze the line and use friction to brake. Apparently the people who got severely injured tried to hotdog it and couldn't stop in time to avoid smashing into a tree at the end.
