Zip Lining Video

Salta is known for its arid, colorful rocky landscapes. Each strata has its own color, sometimes only slightly different than its neighbors, other times strikingly different. The colors were caused by different portions of the rocks being underwater at different times when the entire area was covered by the ocean 60 to 75 million years ago. Some of the formations look at lot like those in southern Utah.

We went white water rafting and zip lining and had a great time. The rafting took us past canyon walls covered in petrified algae, old shells, and even what the guides claimed to be a dinosaur footprint, but which was basically a amorphous impression in the rock. Most zip lining courses run between trees in a forest, but these zip lines ran back and forth across the huge canyon. Awesome! Gliding across high above the canyon floor was quite an experience. I inquired about how the lines were run to begin with and was told that some sort of special gun was used to shoot a line up the mountain and then 15 to 20 people had to tug of war it the rest of the way up.

On our way out of town, our bus drove past the famous Hills of Seven Colors where especially vibrant colored rock hills sit right next each other. We then passed through the Andes at 5000m before descending into the Atacama desert in Chile.
