After a short stop in Buenos Aires, where I met up with my Spanish friend, Antonio, I headed straight to Tierra del Fuego and the city of Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. It's a beautiful city nestled next to the mountains with Chile visible across the water. I hiked to a nearby glacier and in the Tierra del Fuego National Park as well. Most of the national park is a natural reserve and is closed to the public, but there is a small portion with a few hikes available including a spectacular one to a summit overlooking the green-colored Rock Lake, the Chilean Andes, and the edge of Ushuaia, which of course was the one I did. The hike went through a grassy, marshy area where I got my soaked up to my ankles and then immediately turned into a steep, barren, rocky slope. The nearly 360 degree view at the top was more than worthwhile.
